Traces: Portrait of a Digital Life
We use touchscreen devices all the time, but have you ever stopped to look at them more carefully?
During the summer of 2014, I tried to spend a week without using my phone or tablet.
I never actually managed to stop using my iPad completely. But when it was turned off, I soon started to notice curious traces of my fingerprints on the screen.
At first look, these traces look like abstract paintings or drawings done without a plan. But if you look at them carefully, they can actually reveal more than what they seem.
In fact, every trace is left after a logical and rational sequence of gestures: from writing an email to browsing a webpage, the finger traces left on a device’s screen follow your precise intentions and actions.
TRACES collects the results of a photographic exploration (and some thoughts) made during that week.
